cha ChA + Salsa dance practica (beg/int) w/Sarah
11/16 FRI 7:30-10:00p $8
A practice night for new and seasoned dancers interested in Salsa, Cha Cha, Bachata. Once a month The Viscount will provide not just the space to practice (without the pressure of the night clubs and socials), but hands on help with your technique, a social atmosphere, and snacks (What!?).
A practica is the perfect mix of social dancing and class learning that enables your dance to grow as much as your social life :) Here you are free to work on technique, practice your shines, meet new dancers, and even try out the opposite role! New dancers can wet their toes, so to speak, in both Salsa and Cha Cha (and Bachata, too!) in this all ages, all genders, all experience levels, welcoming, and casual environment. Experienced dancers can perfect more specific technique and develop shines/footwork to enhance their expanding repertoire. It's early in the evening, so you can still go out social dancing afterwards! Throughout the 2.5 hours of the practica, short 10 minute lessons will be sprinkled in with longer stretches of DJed music, each focusing on different styles of dance (Salsa, Cha Cha, Bachata), turn technique, footwork, or body movement. Got something you want to work on? Let us know! We will be taking requests.
A short 10 minute lesson, followed by 20 minutes of music makes for a great practice session, and a great warm up for those looking to hit the clubs later!
Refreshments, light snacks, lessons, and a good time - $8
boogaloo cha cha (beg)
Sundays 5:30-6:30p *starts Jan. 6th
This Cha Cha is not your traditional Cha Cha. Focusing on Boogaloo musicality, yet still honoring social partnering in Cha Cha, this course will be one part partnering and another part solo freestyle. Each class will spend equal time on body movement, musicality, rhythm, technique, and partnered patterns. The material will vary month to month, accommodating all levels, and repeat students. If you've done Cha Cha before, prepare for a pleasant surprise as this class will break away from traditional partnering by incorporating more musical play, more individuation, and a fresh look at this classic dance.
